Hotel Etiquette Revealed: What You Can and Can't Take from Your Room, Plus Unusual Theft Attempts at Luxury Lake District Hotel

Simon Steele, the General Manager of Armathwaite Hall, a luxury hotel in the Lake District, shares insights on what items guests can take home and discusses some unusual theft attempts.

You Can Take: Toiletries and Slippers

Simon confirms that guests are encouraged to take mini disposable toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion, which are intended for one-time use. Lorela Movileanu, the Spa Manager at Armathwaite Hall, adds that the hotel rooms feature Temple Spa miniatures to enhance the luxury experience, and full-sized products are available for purchase at the spa.

As for the hotel slippers, Simon reassures guests that it's perfectly fine to take them along: "Our slippers are designed for single use and are not reused, so guests are welcome to take them for continued comfort."

Do Not Take: Robes, Towels, and Electricals

Simon stresses that items like bathrobes, towels, and electrical appliances are not for guests to keep. He explains, "Our bathrobes are crafted from the finest materials to enrich the luxury experience at our AA Red Star hotel and are available for purchase if guests wish to recreate that comfort at home."

Regarding electricals such as kettles and hairdryers, Simon reminds guests that these amenities are provided to enhance their stay and should remain in the room for future guests to enjoy.

Unusual Theft Attempts

Simon shares a humorous anecdote about a guest who tried to take "Winston," a bulldog ornament from the reception desk. "It was a surprising and unusual attempt, but rest assured, Winston was returned after a simple misunderstanding with a guest," he adds, emphasizing that such items are meant to stay within the hotel to welcome other visitors.
