Memoirs of a Doctor: The story of a retired cardiologist who was full of faith and compassion for his patients

Dr. C.S. Koh is a retired Cardiologist, a theologian, and now an Author. During a recent interview, he shared with Abigail Gabriels his journey in Cardiology, faith, and near-death experience; his professor taught him the power of observation, just like Jesus instructed his disciples.

Dr. Koh spoke about the blessings of having great clinicians as his professors. "We were truly blessed to have world-renowned and eminent clinicians like the late Prof. TJD and others of his caliber to teach us the art, science, and skill of medicine... Every so often, he would make a spot diagnosis just by looking at the patient - without even taking a history or doing a physical examination. Students were amazed and spellbound. He would make spot diagnoses of patience with hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, end-stage renal failure, and Parkinson's disease. Prof. TJD taught us the importance of conversation even as the patient walks into the room. He taught us how to use all our 4 senses of observing, hearing, smelling, touching, and feeling to make a diagnosis"

The gift of observation is a God-given gift, and Jesus, after teaching his disciples commanded them to use the gift of their observation. "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [d]Amen" - Mathew 23:19-2

During his years of Cardiology practice, Dr. Koh's pulpit was his office, where he preached the gospel to his patients before embarking on very "risky procedures", he would say a word of prayer with his patients, and many of them were very receptive.
